PEPTIDES & HUMAN PERFORMANCE

Peptides are increasingly discussed across metabolic health, recovery, skin biology, performance and longevity — but the evidence and regulatory status vary dramatically from one compound to another.

The Human Performance Edge takes an evidence-first approach: what the molecule is, what researchers are actually studying, what human evidence exists, what remains unknown, and where marketing has moved ahead of the science.

MOTS-c Peptide Explained: Energy, Endurance & Metabolism

MOTS-c is a mitochondrial-derived peptide with intriguing links to exercise signaling and metabolism. This video separates endogenous biology and early research from the much less established claims around synthetic MOTS-c use.

Evidence level: Preliminary / limited human evidence

Regulatory status: Investigational

RETATRUTIDE

Retatrutide is Lilly's investigational triple GIP/GLP-1/glucagon receptor agonist. As of August 2026 it is not FDA approved or available for public use; Phase 3 development continues.

Evidence level: Late-stage clinical development

Regulatory status: Investigational

EPITALON / EPITHALON

Epitalon is an experimental tetrapeptide associated with circadian and aging research. Human literature is limited, and important questions remain about safety and proposed compounded use.

Evidence level: Preliminary / limited human evidence

Regulatory status: Unapproved / research

THE HPE EVIDENCE METER

Every HPE peptide profile separates two different questions:

Evidence level

• Established / Approved

• Late-stage clinical development

• Human evidence emerging

• Preliminary / limited human evidence

• Preclinical / experimental

Regulatory status

• FDA approved

• Investigational

• Unapproved / research

• Cosmetic / topical context

Evidence strength and regulatory status are not the same thing. A compound can have interesting research without being approved, and an approved medicine may only have evidence for specific indications.

HUMAN PERFORMANCE EDGE RESEARCH

The research library will cover:

• MOTS-c — mitochondrial signaling, metabolism and exercise

• Retatrutide — the triple-agonist mechanism and what Phase 3 data mean

• Epitalon / Epithalon — circadian biology and the limits of anti-aging claims

• BPC-157 — recovery hype versus limited human evidence

• GHK-Cu — topical skin evidence versus broader systemic claims

• Matrixyl + Argireline — what topical cosmetic peptides can plausibly do

Each profile follows the same evidence-first structure: what it is, how it works, why researchers are interested, human evidence, unknowns, evidence level, regulatory status, safety considerations, the HPE take, related video, primary references and last-reviewed date.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Are all peptides FDA approved?

No. “Peptide” describes a broad class of molecules. Some peptide medicines are approved drugs, while many compounds discussed online are investigational or unapproved.

Does “research peptide” mean it is proven to work in humans?

No. A research label says nothing by itself about clinical efficacy or safety.

Why does HPE separate evidence level from regulatory status?

A compound can have interesting research without being approved, and an approved medicine may have evidence for specific indications rather than every claim made online.

Does HPE sell injectable peptides?

No. This hub is educational and does not function as a research-chemical storefront.

Where should I start?

Start with the video library and individual evidence profiles. Each separates mechanism, human evidence, regulatory status and unknowns.
